Bill Burns Sworn in as CIA Director

the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Bill Burns participated in a swearing-in ceremony at the White House where Vice President Harris administered the oath of office with Burns’ spouse and family present. Director Burns brings more than three decades of foreign affairs experience to the Agency’s top post.


Director Burns said, “I’ve long considered CIA to be one of our country’s greatest assets, an institution filled with remarkable talent, a strong sense of purpose, and an abiding commitment to putting country before self. I’m truly humbled to join the CIA family, and I’m deeply grateful to President Biden for entrusting me with such a vital institution.”

Director Burns also thanked Deputy Director David Cohen for his leadership as Acting Director during the transition and expressed his eagerness to engage with the workforce to advance the Agency’s critical foreign intelligence mission.
